The only aim in Rust is to survive - Overcome struggles such as hunger, thirst and cold. Build a fire. Build a shelter. Kill animals. Protect yourself from other players.

Heli Presence

The Attack Helicopter is an event in Rust, occuring about once every 2-4 hours. If the helicopter sees a player, it will open fire so beware when you hear it. The Patrol Helicopter has two rotors, one for the main blades (900HP) and one for the tail(500HP). If both are destroyed, the Patrol Helicopter will be destroyed as well, regardless of its prior HP.

Weaponary of the Heli

The Attack Helicopter has two automatic guns (presumably M249s), as well as rockets with the ability to heavily damage buildings. The automatic gun will cause targets to bleed. In addition, the rockets are extremely deadly and can easily kill players in one shot/burst. As of Devblog 80, the helicopter also has a napalm weapon that rains lingering fire onto the ground, which deters campers and encourages tactical group gameplay.

Simple Heli Avoidance

The helicopter only targets players who are wearing three or more pieces of clothing, or have a ranged weapon in their hotbar. This ensures that naked, unarmed players are not attacked, as they will not be able to defend themselves. It will only target players with equipment or players that threaten the helicopter. As of Devblog 100 the Attack Helicopter will not target players armed with a Hunting Bow. You can literally drop gear on ground and Heli should avoid you.

Harvest That Heli!

The helicopter can drop massive amounts of high quality loot when destroyed, but taking down the helicopter is extremely hard to do, especially alone. It is often hazardous to attack the helicopter alone; cooperation in large groups is recommended. If the helicopter is not destroyed within 15 minutes of its arrival, it will fly back out to sea and disappear. The loot the helicopter yields is similar to airdrops, but in larger quantities with a higher chance for high-quality items.

Definetly the cheapest and easiest way to defeat the attack heli, take your time and heal. Concentrate on hitting the helis Rotors and it will go down easier. Avoid shooting the main hull as it has 10,000 hp by itself. Use regular 5.56 ammo as Explosive ammo cost is just n ot worth using on this.

If you can hold the M249 steady while the heli is approaching and hit the main top rotor, then you can most likely get it to smoke before it makes it to you in 1 clip. Concentrate on hitting the helis Rotors and it will go down easier. Avoid shooting the main hull as it has 10,000 hp by itself. Rocket Luancher

You can technically take the heli down with 11 well placed Basic Rockets. However hitting a moving target with a slowish Rocket may prove to be difficult. As always Focus on the Rotor Blades of the heli. Using Rockets in combination with Ak47 is a common practice. If it's coming straight at you get a Rocket Shot In!!

"Wearing attire is also important for protection from bullets and explosives. Wear clothing and metal armor, if not try to find the best armor you can. Heavy armor is good but it can slow you down and cannot aim with the shirt and helmet."

"My typical loadout when it comes to taking on a Helicopter is a M429 with a 4x scope and 5.56 HV Ammo. If you don't have the M4, apply the similar loadout to an Assault Rifle. Also, build yourself a snipe tower out of Armored Walls and doors. Take into mind any chests close to the walks take heavy damage when missiles hit the walls."

"What I find most helpful would be to find a tightly packed rock formation. That way you have the freedom to relocate and have protection from rocks. Which can't be destroyed by rockets. You may have a small Base somewhere nearby to spawn and gear up again."

"I went through two to three stacks myself when I was shooting the Heli. But that's also considering when I was a poor shot. When I got better it got reduced to two stacks of ammo."
